One of the essential aspects of WRAACReunited is the importance of the members of WRAAC and its predecessor services and auxiliaries. These women, wonderful and diverse, served their country and contributed to the work of Australia’s Defence Forces. Centrally important to Connexions is that it represents those women, from all walks of life and backgrounds. Connexions affirms their existence, contributions and their camaraderie utilising the WRAAC emblem as the vehicle for the declaration.

At the very heart of the construction of Connexions is the ambition to illustrate each woman and the moments she served. All depicted in their collectiveness as a corps then, and their moments now as they come together through WRAACReunited.

In keeping with this theme the photographic representation shows in the bottom left hand corner the WRAAC badge. Its presentation is shown as pieces to illustrate that the corps constituted individuals. Yet each piece, specific in its design, fits perfectly with its neighbours for strength and purpose. In its representation, the pieces seem to be in state of permanent construction which articulates the ongoing recruitment of members to the corps; the building and rebuilding of its membership. The unjoined pieces illustrate the arrival of new members.

The badge representation serves another purpose. It also illustrates the disconnectedness of the corps as it disbanded. In that disbandment, the badge illustrates the fragility of the pattern and the loss of pieces which once made up the whole.

By the representation of a woman’s hand, the badge is touched again by women, and the pieces join and reassemble once more. The unjoined pieces reunite to connect in strength, purpose and community eventually coalescing in the form of the WRAACReunited logo.
